So I always post updates on my kids but this post is for those of you who are wondering, "What's Brian been up to these days?". Well, he's in his third year of medical school, which means that each month he spends his time with a new Doctor or "Preceptor" and on a new medical specialty (i.e. Pediatrics, OBGYN, etc). During the first two years of classwork, he figured out that he's pretty good at looking at test images like x-rays and ultrasounds and stuff, so he was excited about working towards a residency in Radiology. Then he did a month in Pediatrics (where he and another student did the little photo shoot below) and had a fantastic time. Those of you who know Brian and how good he is with kids won't be suprised by that. So now we're altering the plan a little bit and shooting for Radiology or Pediatrics. He'd be great at either one and enjoys them both.
So we'll be putting in applications for residencies starting in July, they'll invite him for interviews October-December, and then we'll know what specialty he'll be doing, and where we'll be living after school by mid-March (about this time one year from now). He'll graduate next May, which means we're almost down to the 1-year-left mark. And he'll begin residency training (like you see on TV where they work at the hospital, have crazy hours and get paid close to the poverty level) July 1st of next year. It will take 3 years to complete if he does Pediatrics and 5 years if he does Radiology. I gotta say that I really hate being in a situation where I don't know what's going to happen but just looking at that last picture reassures me that no matter what happens, we'll be together and we'll be happy.
