Scripture Time

So in our family we read from the scriptures each night (most nights) before we pray, brush teeth and get in bed. Well we recently decided to switch from reading chronologically to reading by topic. It's been a nice change from the norm and we're enjoying studying and discussing more. Last night our topic of study was "Charity" and Lukas was assigned to read Moroni 7:45-48 from the Book of Mormon:

45 And ^acharity suffereth long, and is ^bkind, and ^cenvieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily^dprovoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

 46 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail—

 47 But ^acharity is the pure ^blove of Christ, and it endureth^cforever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.

 48 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, ^apray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true ^bfollowers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall ^cbe like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be ^dpurified even as he is pure. Amen.

Of course Brian helped him with the harder words but he really got on a roll in verse 48 and he read so well that Brian and I looked at each other and we knew that we were feeling the Spirit touch our hearts as he read. Any parent who has experienced the night-after-night frustration of trying to read scriptures with wiggling, arguing, tired, silly, distracted, defiant little children know what an incredible payoff this was for us. Yes, in working with Lukas on his reading skills, but more importantly on trying to have consistent, meaningful scripture study. 

As an equal opportunity family blogger I'll also brag on my girls for a minute. Brooklyn passed off the 13th Article of Faith in church on Sunday and got an enormous candy bar. And Roxy has learned to defy our wishes in TWO new  ways: whining "WHY?" like her older siblings and cocking her head to the side and pretending to be asleep. Adorable!
